Old woman dies in fire in Bagerhat

An old woman named Haya Bibi died in a fire in Bagerhat. The incident took place in Utkul village of Jatrapur union of Sadar upazila on Friday (January 2) morning. On receiving the information, a team of Bagerhat Fire Service quickly reached the spot, brought the fire under control and recovered the body of the old woman from the spot. Haya Bibi’s ancestral home is in Barisal district. Her father is the deceased Jonab Ali.
Sheikh Mamun R. Rashid, Senior Station Officer of Bagerhat Fire Service, told us that in the initial investigation, it is believed that the fire started from a mosquito coil. The hut made of polythene caught fire immediately and the old woman died on the spot. Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masum Khan said that after the incident, the body of the deceased has been sent to the Bagerhat District Hospital morgue for autopsy.
