Two friends killed in pickup van-motorcycle collision
Two motorcyclists were killed in a collision with a pickup van in dense fog at Ashurighat on the Kulaura-Boralekha regional highway in Moulvibazar. The accident occurred at around 7:30 am today, Wednesday (December 24). The deceased were identified as Jabed Ahmed (19), son of Md. Dulu Mia of Dakshin Jangirai village of Joyfornagar union in Juri upazila, and Riyadul Islam (19), son of Md. Nuru Mia of Bhabanipur village in the same upazila. The two deceased youths were long-time friends.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the motorcycle was heading towards Kulaura. At that time, a freight pickup van coming from the opposite direction hit it hard. Both died on the spot. On receiving information, Kulaura police station and fire service personnel went to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to the morgue. Eyewitnesses said that there was dense fog in the area since morning, due to which vehicular movement on the road became very risky. They believe that the accident occurred due to low visibility. Moreover, the speed of the two vehicles was relatively high at the time of the accident. Kulaura Police Station OC Md. Moniruzzaman Mollah said that the bodies of the two deceased youths have been recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. Legal action will be taken if the family files a complaint.
