Bangladesh High Commissioner Threatened in Delhi
Bangladesh High Commissioner in Delhi Riaz Hamidullah has been threatened. The incident took place at the gate of the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi on Saturday (December 20) night. When asked about this, Bangladeshi Press Minister in Delhi Md. Faisal Mahmud said that between 8:30 and 9:45 last night, some people in three cars came in front of the gate of Bangladesh Bhavan and shouted for a while. They were speaking in a mixture of Bengali and Hindi. At that time, slogans like ‘Hindus should be given security’ and ‘Arrest the High Commissioner’ were raised. Later, the people came in front of the main gate and shouted for a while and left. However, they did not physically attack. Nothing was thrown, said Md. Faisal Mahmud.
Responding to a question whether the High Commissioner was threatened with death, the Press Minister said, ‘It could be. They were saying in Hindi and Bengali together – if Hindus are killed there, then we will kill all of you.’ But these were just words and shouting. There was no physical attack.’ It is learnt that after the extremist Indians left the Bangladesh High Commission building, the High Commissioner met the Defence Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission on an emergency basis at night and discussed the matter. An official from the Defence Wing informed the High Commissioner that they had come and shouted and left, but had not done anything extra.
