Turkey issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu, 38 Israeli officials
Turkey’s Istanbul prosecutor’s office has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 37 other Israeli officials on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity.
The top public prosecutor’s office in Istanbul issued the warrants on Friday (November 7), CNN and the Times of India reported.
The defendants include Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gavir and Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Yeal Zamir. Turkey has alleged that the massacre carried out by Israel in Gaza is a planned and continuous genocide and a crime against humanity.
The statement also said that the Israeli airstrike on the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital built by Turkey in Gaza is also under investigation. Last year, Turkey joined South Africa in a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
A fragile ceasefire has been in place in war-torn Gaza since October 10 as part of US President Donald Trump’s regional peace plan.
But Israel condemned the order on Friday. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said it was “part of a political campaign or public relations strategy” by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
