A party is looking for an opportunity to sign the July Charter: Salahuddin Ahmed
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that a party is looking for an opportunity to sign the July Charter. They have some demands. The party has said that the charter will be implemented through a special constitutional order. But according to the constitution, the head of government has no right to issue it. This jurisdiction belongs only to the President.
He said this at a discussion titled ‘July 24 Mass Uprising: Education and Employment in the Mind of Youth’ organized by UTAB at the National Press Club today, Thursday (October 23).
Salahuddin Ahmed said that proposing to the Chief Advisor to issue a constitutional order is emotional. The government can only issue a notification here. The state does not run on emotions. Nevertheless, the BNP welcomes this proposal. He further commented that at this time, party interests should not take precedence over national interests.
Regarding the referendum, he said, “The BNP has proposed a referendum. It has been said that a referendum will be held on the day of the election. All but two political parties have agreed to this proposal.” The BNP leader added, “Along with economic development, we need a change in our mental outlook. Along with other reforms, mental reforms are also needed. Otherwise, reforms cannot be made into reality.”
