Cargo plane skids off runway in Hong Kong, killing two

A cargo plane skidded off the runway at Hong Kong International Airport and fell into the sea, killing two people, the airport authorities have confirmed.
The plane, which had departed from Dubai, was landing at Hong Kong International Airport at 3:50am on Monday (October 20) when the incident occurred, Hong Kong Airport Authority said.
According to BBC sources, Emirates flight EK9788, a Boeing 747-481 owned by Turkish cargo airline Air Act, was originally a passenger plane that had been converted into a freighter. It is more than 30 years old. The plane first flew in 1993.
Local media reported that two people in an airport car that crashed into the sea after colliding with the plane died.
The plane’s four crew members survived and were hospitalized.
This is the second fatal accident at the current Hong Kong airport since it opened in 1998.
