Youth commits suicide by jumping under train after video message on Facebook seeking forgiveness

Unable to bear the burden of debt, a youth named Mithu Das (27) committed suicide by jumping under a train in Sitakunda, Chittagong. He died after being crushed under a freight train in the down lane of Moulvipara in the municipality area at around 8 pm on Tuesday (September 23).
The deceased Mithu Das is the son of Premananda Das of Bankishore village in Charghata upazila of Rajshahi district.
Locals said that after being crushed by the train, they informed the railway police. Later, the police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the morgue of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Before committing suicide, Mithu Das said in a video message on Facebook that he had been facing various dangers since last December. Unable to bear the financial crisis and the burden of debt, he decided to end his life. In the video, he said that no one is responsible for his suicide. He apologized to the debtors. He requested that the family not be pressured for loans after his death.
In the video message, he also mentioned that a company at his workplace had spent three lakh taka, which could result in a case. In this context, he requested the company not to harass the family in any way. He requested for the last time that his younger sister be married to a good boy.
Ashraf Siddique, in-charge of Sitakunda Railway Police Outpost, said that after receiving information from locals, the police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. He died after being crushed under a freight train.
