Police remand 4 accused in lynching of son-in-law and father-in-law
A court has granted a three-day remand to four accused arrested in the case of the death of a son-in-law and father-in-law in a mob lynching in Taraganj, Rangpur. Taraganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Amli Court Judge Krishna Kamal Roy gave the order at around 1 pm on Thursday (August 14). Court in-charge Aminul Islam said on his mobile phone that the investigation officer of the case, OC (Investigation), Rafiqul Islam, applied for a five-day remand. The court granted a three-day remand after the hearing. The wife of the deceased Ruplal, Bharati Rani, filed a murder case with Taraganj Police Station on Sunday afternoon, naming 700 people as unknown accused. After that, the police conducted a raid at night with the help of video footage analysis and information technology and arrested four people. The arrested are: Ebadat Hossain (27) of Balapur area of Sawar Union, Akhtarul Islam (45) of Burirhat area, Rafiqul Islam (33) and Mizanur Rahman (22) of Rahimapur. According to the case report, on Saturday night at around 8:30 pm, while returning home in a van with his niece and son-in-law Pradeep Lal from Charan Balua area of Mithapukur, locals stopped Ruplal and Pradeep at the Burirhat Battala intersection and searched them. At that time, the agitated mob found a foul-smelling liquid and some medicines in a ‘speed can’ bottle and took them to the Burirhat High School grounds and beat them up. Ruplal was declared dead when he was taken to the hospital in a serious condition and Pradeep Lal died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the morning.
