Jamaat is keen to form a strong alliance against BNP
Jamaat-e-Islami is keen to form a strong alliance against BNP. Apart from religious parties, this alliance may include centrists. There are also rumors of bringing NCP into the alliance. However, the youth group says that joining Jamaat’s meetings and gatherings is not an electoral one, but a reform-oriented alliance. Jamaat hopes for good results in the elections if the expected alliance is formed. And BNP alleges that efforts are being made to rehabilitate Awami League by raising various demands, including elections through PR methods. Despite the controversy over the July Charter, declaration and trial, the election wind is blowing in the country’s politics. There is a competition to increase political allies. The field of politics is bustling with demonstrations of strength at meetings, seminars and rallies. Although BNP has not yet indicated an electoral alliance or compromise, it has kept like-minded parties and alliances in confidence. The party has also sent letters to local BNPs in the constituencies of many allied parties. On the other hand, Jamaat has entered the election with a lot of hesitation. The party is trying to form an alliance with other Islamic parties including the Islamic Movement and several moderate parties. Although BNP was not seen at the Jamaat rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, the presence of Islamic parties including the NCP and the People’s Rights Movement was seen. There has been a stir in the political arena, and these parties are going to form an anti-BNP electoral alliance. However, the NCP is calling it not an electoral alliance, but a reform-oriented alliance. The party’s senior joint convener, Ariful Islam Adeeb, said that the July charter has not been finalized. For this reason, the election schedule has not been announced. Whether there will be an electoral alliance or not has not yet been polarized. However, on the issue of reforms, most parties outside the BNP, including Jamaat-e-Islami, the Islamic Movement and the NCP, are moving in parallel. Jamaat is optimistic about a strong alliance with Islamic parties and like-minded people. The party is confident of good results if the expected alliance is achieved. Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, we will hold elections in all 300 seats. However, Jamaat-e-Islami will hold these elections through a seat agreement with like-minded parties. We believe that Jamaat will definitely gain the trust of the people this time. BNP Standing Committee member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku is criticizing the demands of these parties to hold meetings and rallies while excluding BNP. According to him, attempts are being made to rehabilitate the Awami League by making various demands like PR. Tuku also said, such a government has never held upazila or union parishad elections. They have held national elections. By doing this PR, they are trying to revive the Awami League in politics. However, political analyst and professor of the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University, Sabbir Ahmed, sees the possibility of a final alliance right now. He said, there may be an alliance of Islamic parties. Jamaat may or may not have an alliance with the NCP. Because there is still time. The country’s politics will continue to go through this trial. In his address to the nation on the anniversary of the August 5 uprising, the chief advisor announced the election in the first half of February. The Election Commission also announced the decision to announce the schedule in the first half of December.
