Young man dies after being stabbed under flyover due to dispute

A youth named Jewel was stabbed to death at the Maona intersection in Sreepur, Gazipur. Police immediately conducted a raid and arrested two youths named Rakib (25) and Robin (27). The blood-stained knife used in the murder was also recovered. The incident took place early on Saturday (August 9). The deceased Jewel’s house is in the Haluaghat area of Mymensingh. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station Mohammad Abdul Barik said that at night, some youths went to sleep next to the ‘Galp Chha’ tea house under the Maona flyover. An argument broke out between the killed and arrested youths over sleeping on a jute bed. At one stage, during the scuffle, the knife in Rakib’s hand pierced Jewel’s chest and Robin’s hand was cut. Later, locals rescued Jewel and took him to a hospital in Mauna Chowrasta. From there, he was taken to the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex for advanced treatment, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Upon receiving the information, the patrolling police arrested two people from the spot. Efforts are underway to identify them. The OC further said that all the deceased and arrested are absconding. They are involved in various crimes in the Mauna Chowrasta area. Legal proceedings are underway in this regard.
