New notes coming, with July Revolution graffiti.
The government is going to bring new notes of 20, 100, 500 and 1000 taka to the market. By removing the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and changing the design, religious buildings, Bengali traditions and ‘July Revolution graffiti’ are being added to the notes.
It is learned that the Bangladesh Bank and the government have already given final approval to this matter. Activities have also been started to print new notes. If everything goes well, these new notes will come to the market within the next six months.
The concerned officials of the central bank and the Ministry of Finance said that the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be removed from the current design. Initially, the design of four notes is being changed. Later, the design of all types of bank notes in the country will be redesigned in stages.
Earlier, on September 29, the Finance Department of the Ministry of Finance wrote to Bangladesh Bank to submit a detailed design proposal for the new note. However, the main recommendation on printing new notes will be made by the Central Bank’s Currency and Design Advisory Committee. The chairman of the committee is the Deputy Governor-1 of Bangladesh Bank. The committee also includes painters.
Speaking to the media on these issues, Bangladesh Bank spokesperson and executive director Husne Ara Shikha said, “The issue of printing new money has come a long way. I hope the new money can be released in the market within the next six months.”
