Youth commits suicide in front of Police Superintendent’s office

The body of a youth named Simanto Das (24) has been recovered from the Eidgah ground, Judge Court and Police Superintendent’s office in Barguna.
Police handed over his body to his family from the Barguna General Hospital morgue on Tuesday (October 21) afternoon.
Earlier, the hanging body of the youth was recovered from the pond of the Circuit House adjacent to the Barguna Police Superintendent’s office at around 2 am last Monday.
It is learned that the deceased youth is the son of Bijan Karmakar of Lakurtala village in Gaurichanna union of Sadar upazila. He is a member of the Border Police, who was recently dismissed from outsourcing work. Before going to work, he was working in Patharghata.
Meanwhile, a passerby saw the youth hanging from a tree at around 2 am on Monday and reported the matter to Barguna police station. On receiving the information, the police took the body down from the tree, inspected it and sent it to the Barguna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Locals said that Simanta was mentally ill. He was seen sleeping somewhere many times.
Simanta’s father Bijan Karmakar said that he was at home last Monday night. He also asked him for money. No one understood when he left the house at night when everyone was sleeping. They came to the spot after receiving a call from the police.
He said, “I do not understand why the boy committed suicide. I have no complaint against anyone.”
Inspector (Investigation) of Barguna Police Station Md. Yunus told us that the father of the deceased Simanta reported the suicide to the police station in writing. The body was handed over to the family after the autopsy. The cause of Simanta’s death is being investigated. A UD case has been filed in this regard at the police station.
