The European Union supports the interim government’s reform program.
The European Union (EU) will stand by the people of Bangladesh in the interim government’s reform efforts, said EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib. The EU Commissioner said this at the book launch of ‘Bangladesh 36 July 2024’ at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan on Sunday.
She said, “I stand by you and the European Union stands with you in supporting the interim government’s reform ambitions. Human rights and democratic values are the cornerstones of EU-Bangladesh relations.”
The book was released by the EU Mission in Dhaka. It features street art and graffiti depicting the repression of the July-August protests and the people’s aspirations for a new Bangladesh. Lahbib reiterated the EU’s commitment to Bangladesh and emphasized their partnership.
She said, “We are strong and reliable humanitarian, development and trade partners. The Bangladesh-EU partnership is a strategic position based on our shared values. You can count on my support and the support of the European Union.’
He highlighted the significance of art in reflecting public resistance and demands for change. The EU Commissioner recalled the violent repression of peaceful protesters in Bangladesh last year.
