40 killed in RSF drone strike in Sudan
At least 40 people have been killed in a drone strike by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Kordofan, Sudan, a local official said. Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on Monday (November 3).
A local official told Al Jazeera yesterday that the attack targeted civilians in the village of Al-Lueb, east of the provincial capital Al-Obeid. Women and children were among the dead.
The provincial government said the attack targeted a tent used for a funeral. Many people were killed. Describing it as a new addition to the RSF’s crimes against civilians, the government said a large number of women, children and the elderly also lost their lives in the attack.
In such a situation, the government called on the international community to immediately declare the RSF a “terrorist organization”. It alleged that the RSF was committing crimes against unarmed civilians.
The RSF recently announced that it would soon attack the town of Al-Obeid. At the same time, locals have also been asked to use safe corridors to leave the town. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that at least 38,000 people have been displaced from North and South Kordofan due to insecurity since late October. Meanwhile, in the ongoing fighting, the RSF recently took control of the town of Bara in North Kordofan. However, they have denied allegations of targeting civilians. Earlier, on October 26, the RSF captured the town of Al-Fashar, the capital of North Darfur province. Later, a massive massacre of civilians was carried out. After that attack, experts warned that such a conflict could further strengthen the geographical division of Sudan.
