Mexico supermarket explosion kills 23
At least 23 people were killed and 11 injured in an explosion at a supermarket in Sonora, Mexico, Al Jazeera reported. The explosion occurred at a Waldo store in the heart of the state capital Hermosillo on Saturday (November 1).
“Unfortunately, some of the victims are minors,” the state’s governor, Alfonso Durazo, said in a video message. He added that the injured were being treated at various hospitals in Hermosillo. Local public safety authorities said they had already ruled out any possibility of an “attack” or “violent incident against citizens.”
“I have ordered a comprehensive and transparent investigation to determine the cause of this incident and identify those responsible,” Durazo said. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum posted on social media X and expressed her condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
