    Journalist couple Shakil-Farzana remanded for 5 days

    A court has granted a five-day remand to journalists Farzana Rupa and Shakil Ahmed in the murder case of Anwar Hossain Patwari, who was shot dead in the Gol Chattar area under Mirpur police station during the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital.

    Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate G. M. Farhan Ishtiaq ordered the remand on Monday.

    The investigation officer of the journalist couple’s case, Inspector Nasir Uddin Sarkar of the CID, applied for their five-day remand. They were produced in court from jail during the hearing.

    Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi, representing the state, argued in favor of granting the remand. After the hearing, the court ordered their five-day remand.

    Anwar Hossain Patwari was shot dead in the Gol Chattar area of ​​Mirpur on August 5, the day the Awami League government fell during the anti-discrimination student movement. His father, Al Amin Patwari, filed a murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station in this incident.

    Farzana Rupa is a former principal correspondent of private television station Ekattor Television. And Shakil is a former head of news of the same television.

    It is worth noting that they were arrested at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on August 21 while trying to leave the country after the change of power.
