Former IGP Mamun seeks acquittal from 5-year sentence
Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, the main witness in the case, has appealed against his 5-year sentence in the crimes against humanity case. He filed an appeal with the relevant branch of the Supreme Court today, Monday (December 22).
Abdullah Al Mamun’s family confirmed the appeal. Earlier, on November 17, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, an accused in the crimes against humanity case committed during the student uprising, to 5 years in prison.
In this case, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal were sentenced to death on one charge. Sheikh Hasina and Kamal were sentenced to life imprisonment on another charge. Later, the state appealed from their life imprisonment to death sentence.
