Driver killed for hijacking autorickshaw in Kishoreganj
A hijacker stabbed the driver to death while hijacking a battery-powered autorickshaw in Itna, Kishoreganj. Locals have arrested three people in this incident and handed them over to the police. The incident took place in the Gowara Bridge area of Raytuti Union in Itna Upazila early on Sunday (September 7). The deceased is Kalipad Chandra Sutradhar (40), son of Sudhir Chandra Sutradhar, a resident of Paschim Sachail village in Tarail Upazila. The arrested are Ashraful Islam (20), Md. Naeem (19) and Md. Durjoy (20). According to local and police sources, three youths hired Kalipad Chandra Sutradhar’s autorickshaw on Saturday (September 6) night, saying they were coming to see the Raytuti Bridge. Later, after Raytuti reached Gowara Bridge, they tried to hijack the autorickshaw. When they tried to stop him, autorickshaw driver Kalipada was seriously injured in a stab wound. He was rescued in a critical condition and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, locals caught three youths while they were fleeing after the incident. They were later handed over to the police. Itna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zafar Iqbal said that legal action is being taken in this regard.
