Country at a critical moment: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said, ‘Bangladesh is standing at a critical moment. Which direction we will go as a nation, how we will walk on the path of democracy as a country, everything depends on the next election.’
He said these words after inspecting the Ansar-VDP election training today, Monday (November 3). Addressing the Ansar and VDP members, he said, ‘Apart from being members of the force, we are citizens of this country. We also have a civic responsibility.’
The CEC said, ‘I am the Chief Election Commissioner. Apart from that, I am a citizen of Bangladesh. As a citizen, I also have a responsibility. What kind of Bangladesh will I leave behind, will I leave behind a democratic Bangladesh, how will I leave behind it – this thought always worries me. We did not take it as a regular responsibility, I did not take it personally, I did not take it as a job. I took it as a mission, a challenge.’
The Chief Election Commissioner said, ‘I do not believe in working in the traditional way. “Especially at a critical moment, when the country is in a critical situation. We cannot work in the traditional way here. We have to go beyond the traditional way and solve the problem.”
