A case has been filed in connection with the vandalism, looting and attempted arson at the Chhayanotte Cultural House in Dhanmondi, the capital. 300 to 350 people have been accused in the case as unidentified persons. Chhayanotte manager Dulal Ghosh filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station late last Friday (December 19) night. Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam confirmed the matter on Sunday (December 21) morning. He said that the names of 300 to 350 unidentified miscreants have been mentioned in the case. However, no specific names were given.
The Chhayanotte authorities said that on the night of Osman Hadi’s death, miscreants entered the building and attacked and burned CCTV cameras, furniture, tabla, harmonium, violin and various rooms. However, the extent of the damage is not yet known. After the incident, the interim government’s advisor to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui, visited Chhayanaut. At that time, he said that the miscreants would be brought to justice after viewing the CCTV footage.
The Chhayanaut Cultural Building in Dhanmondi was attacked on Thursday night (December 18) amid anger and protests following the shooting death of Inqilab Manch convener Sharif Osman Hadi. Each floor of the six-story building of Chhayanaut was vandalized. The ground floor of the building was also set on fire. Classrooms in the building were destroyed, including CCTV (closed circuit) cameras, computers, furniture, musical instruments, and several laptops and electrical equipment.
