Canadian Prime Minister dissolves parliament,
Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney has dissolved the parliament. He also announced a snap election. The election will be held on April 28. He made the announcement yesterday, Sunday.
Mark Carney said, “We are facing the biggest crisis of our lifetimes, which has been created by President Donald Trump’s unfair trade actions and his threats to our sovereignty.”
He also said, “I want strong and positive support from the Canadian people so that we can deal effectively with President Trump and build a new Canadian economy that works for everyone. Because I know we need change — big change, positive change.”
The election was scheduled to be held by October 20. However, according to experts, Carney is trying to ensure his Liberal Party’s advantage through the early vote. Public support for the Liberals has increased since Trudeau announced his resignation in January and Trump’s threat. The US president’s tariffs and demands to incorporate Canada into the United States have created public anger and uncertainty. However, the Canadian government’s strong and united response to Washington has won the support of many Canadians.
