Body exhumed from grave 12 hours after burial in Jamalpur, stirs in the area
An old woman named Halima (65) was exhumed from her grave about 12 hours after her burial in Melandha upazila of Jamalpur on charges of being possessed by a jinn. However, after necessary tests including an ECG, the doctor declared her dead. This created a huge stir in the area. The incident took place at 8 pm on Saturday (August 1) in Nayapara area of Mahmudpur union of the upazila. The deceased Halima Begum (65) is known to be the wife of the deceased Sohrab Akand of Nayapara village of the upazila.
Locals said that when the woman died yesterday morning, she was buried in the family graveyard. A few hours after the burial, unusual behavior was seen among the family members. At one point, it was claimed that the deceased’s son and daughter had been possessed by a jinn. The jinn had instructed them that the woman was alive and should be brought out of the grave.
After this claim, the body was exhumed from the grave at night. First, she was taken to Melandha. Later, she was taken to a private hospital in Jamalpur city at around 11:30 pm for further confirmation. Eyewitnesses said that after being taken to the hospital, necessary tests including an ECG were conducted. After the tests, the doctor on duty confirmed that the woman was dead. Later, the family members took the body back home. The family members and doctors did not speak about the incident.
