LNG supply reduced, severe gas crisis across the country

A severe gas crisis has been going on across the country for more than a week due to the reduced supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Customers have been suffering even after visiting various filling stations in the capital since Sunday morning (August 2).
Long queues of CNG-powered vehicles were seen at filling stations today. Drivers said that the gas crisis has affected their income and livelihood. The wheels of industry have come to a standstill due to the lack of gas. The same picture is seen at homes. Many are unable to cook because the stoves are not burning. The gas pump authorities say that it is not possible to supply gas as per demand due to low pressure.
The government’s Energy Department said that an LNG terminal in Maheshkhali has been closed due to a fire. Accelerate Energy has sought time till August 10 to reopen it. Efforts are being made to restart the intact boiler of the terminal that was closed earlier. If it is restarted, the crisis will ease to some extent.
