Rescue operation underway in Rajshahi, father-son missing after boat capsizes in Padma

A father-son couple went missing after a boat capsized in the area adjacent to Barakuthi Ghat on the Padma River in Rajshahi. The incident occurred today (July 28) at around 12 noon. A fire service diving team has been working since 12 noon to rescue the missing father-son couple.
The missing are the boat driver Kausar Ali (60) and his son Ziyarul Islam (32). Their home is in Zia Nagar, Shyampur, Rajshahi. Eyewitnesses said that the boat had set off from the char area on the other bank of the Padma with about 8-10 passengers towards Barakuthi Ghat. After reaching near the ghat, the boat sank in a strong current. At that time, the passengers were rescued with the help of another boat, but the father and son drowned.
Mohammad Abdur Razzak, assistant director of Rajshahi District Fire and Civil Defense Department, said the fire brigade’s diving team is continuing the rescue operation. However, the operation is being hampered due to strong currents.
