Photographer Namin held his girlfriend captive for 4 days and then raped her…

A case has been filed against photographer Namin Ashraf Moni and three others for allegedly raping and murdering his girlfriend by holding her captive for four days under the pretext of marriage in Dhaka’s Adabor. Yesterday, Monday (July 27), the victim’s elder sister Razia Sultana filed the case in the court of Judge Md. Moniruzzaman of the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-5 in Dhaka.
After recording the plaintiff’s statement, Judge Md. Moniruzzaman of the concerned court ordered the Detective Branch (DB) police to investigate the allegations in the case and submit a report by September 10. The accused in the case are photographer Namin Ashraf Moni, his father Ashrafuddin and mother Shahnaz Begum.
The case alleges that the plaintiff’s sister Sadia Yasfia (24) worked as a makeup artist. On the other hand, the main accused, Namim Ashraf (37), worked as a photographer. Namim and Sadia met during the shooting of a program in 2024. This is how they started working together in the shooting of various programs. At one point, a close love relationship developed between them.
It is also said that while they were in a love relationship, they talked about getting married. Both the families knew about the matter. In continuation of this, on June 6, Sadia’s elder sister, elder brother and family members went to the accused’s house in Dhalkanagar Gali, Gendaria with a marriage proposal. At that house, Namim Ashraf’s parents rejected the marriage proposal. They threatened that any attempt to get Sadia married to their son would be against their interests.
The case application states that on the night of June 10, Namim called the victim Sadia and took her to his own photo studio flat located on the 2nd floor of a building on Shekhertek-12 Road in Adabor. But Namim forced the victim to tell her family that she was at her friend’s house.
It is further stated that accused Namim kept the abducted victim captive from June 10 to June 14 and raped her continuously and killed her on June 14. Later, accused Namim campaigned to save himself by calling the incident a suicide. The plaintiff further stated that the police report of the incident showed marks of injury and rape on various parts of the victim’s body. Based on these allegations, the court took cognizance of the case and ordered an investigation.
