Israel-Lebanon to hold new round of talks on August 4: US

Israeli and Lebanese officials will meet in Rome, Italy, next week to implement a US-brokered deal and work toward a full peace agreement between the two countries in the future. The US will lead the talks from August 4 to 6, a US State Department official said. CNN reported this.
The meeting comes as the Israeli army announced last week that it had handed over control of the first test zone in southern Lebanon to the Lebanese Armed Forces. Shortly after, US President Donald Trump met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
The US State Department official said that the technical-level talks will focus on fully implementing the framework agreement announced in late June. The talks will discuss further expansion of the test zone, resolving remaining border issues and moving towards a full peace and security agreement.
He said this framework is the only path to lasting peace. He added that the experience gained from the first pilot zone will help launch more pilot zones in phases in the future.
