Presidential election to be held on time: Mirza Fakhrul
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the presidential election will be held on time. He said this in response to questions from journalists after inaugurating the Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) divisional office in the terminal area of Rangpur city at 10:30 am today, Monday (July 27).
Mirza Fakhrul also said, “The presidential election will be held on time. Candidates for the post of president will be nominated as per the party’s decision.” Regarding the local government elections, he said that the Election Commission will determine the educational qualification for local government elections. If not by the end of this year, then the local government elections will be held early next year.
The minister also said that the government has waived interest on agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 for agricultural development. In addition, the Prime Minister has announced the highest allocation for agricultural development in the Rangpur region. All necessary initiatives will be taken to make agriculture profitable.
Mirza Fakhrul referred to BNP as a democratic political party and said, “We have formed the government by achieving a two-thirds majority in parliament through a long struggle with the love and votes of the people. BNP has fulfilled its responsibility of running the government not once, but five times. This government is a farmer-friendly and people-oriented government. Those who call BNP fascists have developed that way due to their lack of knowledge or their mentality.” Earlier in the morning, he inaugurated the BRDB divisional office. Later, he inaugurated the rural fair organized at the Rangpur Public Library ground and visited various stalls. He also attended a view-exchange meeting with the concerned associations at the Shilpakala Academy. Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Shamsuzzaman Samu, Divisional Commissioner Shahidul Islam (NDC), Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam, Rangpur Zilla Parishad Administrator Saiful Islam, along with government officials and employees and BNP leaders and workers were also present at the time.
