Shapla Square massacre is unprecedented in the country’s history: Chief Prosecutor

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Aminul Islam, said that the Shapla Square massacre is unprecedented in the country’s history. He said this at a press conference today, Monday (July 27).
The Chief Prosecutor said that this is why the then government carried out a planned operation to eliminate an Islamic organization like Hefazat-e-Islam. Under the influence of some bloggers, activists and leftists, many of whom are known as atheists, the government wanted to destroy an organization like Hefazat-e-Islam. And as part of that plan, this horrific attack and murder was carried out on them that day.
He also said that the then government had not investigated this case since 2013. Despite many efforts by Hefazat-e-Islam, they did not get any investigation or trial for this murder during the tenure of the then government. Incidentally, the tribunal has taken cognizance of formal charges against 41 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Army Chief Aziz Ahmed, former IGP Shahidul Haque and Benazir Ahmed, in the Shapla Chattar murder case. At the same time, arrest warrants have been issued against 33 absconding people.
