Couple drowns in Badalgachhi

A husband and wife died while bathing in a pond in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon. The incident took place on Sunday (July 26) afternoon in Kartikahar village of the upazila.
The deceased are – Sumaiya Akhter (18), daughter of Md. Shahin, a resident of Kartikahar village in Adaypur union of the upazila, and her husband Nur Islam (22), son of Abul Kashem, a resident of Bedbaria village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badalgachhi police station Muhammad Ruhul Amin said that Nur Islam first went into the water to bathe in the Kartikahar pond in the afternoon.
When he was not seen in the water after a while, his wife Sumaiya also jumped into the water. Then both of them drowned. After a while, when the matter came to light, local people rescued them from the water and brought them to the Upazila Health Complex. There, the doctor declared them dead. The OC also said that the body is currently in police custody at the hospital. The body will be handed over to the family after completing the legal process when the family members arrive.
