Fire breaks out at chemical factory in Savar, 5 injured including firefighter
A fire broke out at a chemical factory for mixing paints north of Hemayetpur bus stand under Savar police station on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. The fire that broke out at a six-storey building in Shahidullah Housing in Padma More area of Hemayetpur in the early hours of Sunday (July 26) was brought under control around 7 am.
Factory workers claimed that the fire started from an electric meter. However, the fire brigade has not yet confirmed the matter. According to police sources, a fire broke out at a large chemical factory for mixing paints. When people nearby saw the smoke of the fire and informed the fire brigade, two units of the fire brigade reached the spot and started work to control the fire. Five people, including four fire brigade firefighters, were injured while extinguishing the fire.
The injured are firefighter Md. Shamim, Md. Ujjal, Md. Omar Faruk, team leader Monowar Hossain and local resident Mashiur Rahman. The seriously injured Mashiur Rahman (40) has been admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar. However, he is currently out of danger.
Savar Fire Brigade Team Leader Monowar Hossain said that two units went to the spot after receiving the news of the fire at around 12:30 am. They worked to control the fire from 1 am to 7 am. Four of their firefighters were injured in the frequent explosions in the chemical warehouse. All were given first aid. However, one has been admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital.
He added that the fire was brought under control around 7 am and the operation was completed. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be known through further investigation.
