Sheikh Hasina and 10 industrial groups’ assets worth Tk 76,000 crore seized

The assets of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 10 industrial groups worth Tk 76,000 crore have been seized. BFIU chief Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun confirmed this information at a press conference. He said that the assets of these individuals and organizations worth Tk 57,000 crore in the country and Tk 19,000 crore abroad have been seized. Efforts are underway to recover the stolen assets from the country. He also said that good news will be available in this regard by the end of this year.
In response to a question, the BFIU chief said that bank accounts are seized only when there is suspicion. If anyone in the interim government has done anything like this, it will also come to light. During that government, a joint investigation team started working to investigate the illegal acquisition of assets, tax evasion and money laundering of Sheikh Hasina’s family and 10 industrial groups including S Alam, Nabil, Beximco. He also said that in light of the investigation report, in addition to confiscating assets, various initiatives, including cases and agreements with international legal assistance organizations, are underway to bring back assets from abroad.
