Students protest in front of Comilla Board demanding resignation of Education Minister
HSC examinees protested in front of the Comilla Education Board. The protest and sit-in program was held for three demands, including the resignation of the Education Minister. On Tuesday afternoon, students took up positions at the gate of the Comilla Education Board with this program.
Earlier, students faced police barricades on their way to the Comilla Education Board with a protest procession from Pubali Chattar in Kandirpar of the city. Later, ignoring the barricades, they took up positions at the main gate of the board and raised slogans for three demands. The protesters claimed to be students of various colleges including Comilla Victoria Government College, Comilla Government College, Ruposhi Bangla College, Comilla Collectorate School and College, Sonar Bangla College.
At this time, the students highlighted their demands and said that the demand for the postponement of the exams has been made by students of all colleges in the country until the disaster outbreak is completely over. Those who could not participate in the exams on July 13 due to adverse weather conditions should take the exams again. The Education Minister must resign within the next 24 hours.
Comilla Education Board Secretary Professor Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Deputy Examination Controller Md. Salauddin, Comilla Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Fatema Tuz Johra, Kotwali Police Station OC Touhidul Anwar appeared in front of the Education Board gate and discussed with the protesters and listened to them.
Later, Education Board Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam told the examinees, we have heard the examinees. We will take responsibility for what we can fulfill. And we will inform the higher authorities about what we cannot fulfill.
Upazila Executive Officer Fatema Tuz Johra said, when the examinees took position at the main gate of the Education Board, the Kotwali Police Station OC deployed police there. Later, the Education Board Secretary talked to the students. The number of protesters will be less than 100. An important meeting has been called at the Comilla District Commissioner’s office this afternoon to discuss the demands of the examinees. The issue will be discussed there.
