I have not received a single penny from the opposition party, I have been to jail five times: Speaker
Speaker of the National Assembly Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram said that in his 40 years of parliamentary life, he did not receive any government benefits while he was a member of the opposition party. He said this on the 18th working day of the budget session of the 13th National Assembly today, Monday (June 29).
The Speaker said, I have also spent 40 years in this parliament. I was also a member of the opposition party. I have never received a single penny. I have been arrested five times and have been to jail. That is all. I have not achieved anything else. He praised the budget speech of the opposition leader and said that in his almost one-hour speech, he has highlighted various problems of the country and various aspects of the budget.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, I cannot talk here about the problem of forgetting my birthplace and constituency while sitting in this chair. He (the opposition leader) has highlighted the issues before the nation. I hope the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister will take these issues into consideration.
