Ramisa murder case: State lawyer appointed for convicted accused

Supreme Court lawyer Hafizur Rahman Khan has been appointed as the state lawyer for the legal battle in the High Court on behalf of Sohel Rana and his wife, who were sentenced to death in the rape and murder case of child Ramisa. Additional Attorney General Advocate Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan confirmed the appointment on Thursday (June 25).
He said that some processes are still pending. The hearing of the death reference and appeal will begin only after these are completed. Lawyer Hafizur Rahman Khan said that he will review the documents of the lower court verdict in the Ramisa murder case and fight the legal battle for the accused.
Earlier, a double bench of the High Court comprising Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja directed the solicitor to appoint a state lawyer. On June 7, Dhaka’s Juvenile Crime Prevention Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin sentenced Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akhter to death in the Ramisa murder case. After the verdict was announced, the two accused were sent to the death row cell. They filed a jail appeal against the verdict from the death row cell.
