Woman’s body recovered two days after going missing in Rangamati
Two days after she went missing in Rangamati, the body of a woman named Mukta Barua (28) was recovered by the fire service station staff. The body was recovered floating in Kaptai Lake in Shaheed Minar Ghat, a reserved area of the city, after receiving information from locals around 10 am today (June 21). She was later handed over to Rangamati Kotwali Police Station. Locals said that Mukta Barua was mentally ill.
It is learned that Mukta Barua lived with her husband Abhijit Barua in a rented house in the BGB Road area of Tabalchhari, Rangamati. She had been missing since last Friday (June 19) night. After a long search, the family filed a general diary (GD) with the Kotwali Police Station on Saturday. When the body was found floating this morning, the locals informed the police. Then the fire service personnel went and recovered the body and handed it over to the police station.
Family members said that Mukta Barua had been suffering from mental problems for a long time. She often left the house without informing anyone. Local resident Apu Chowdhury said that a child in the area saw her floating in the pond in the morning and told her something. At first, he thought that someone was collecting wood or bamboo floating in the mountain stream. But when he went to the spot and saw the body, he immediately informed the police.
Rangamati Fire Service and Civil Defense leader Md. Gias Uddin said that after receiving the information, they quickly reached the spot, recovered the body and handed it over to the police for further legal action. Rangamati Kotwali Police Station OC Md. Jasim Uddin said that earlier her husband had filed a general diary (GD) with the police station regarding Mukta Barua’s disappearance. Initially, the family had said that Mukta Barua was mentally ill. The body has been sent to the Rangamati General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
