Khulshi Police Station OC Md. Arifur Rahman has been withdrawn over the beating and harassment of Bangladesh national team cricketer Nayeem Hasan at the police station. Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali ordered the withdrawal on Saturday (June 13) night.
He said that the OC of Khulshi Police Station has been withdrawn and attached to the police line. Earlier, two policemen accused in the incident were temporarily suspended last Friday night. They are Khulshi Police Station SI Shafiqul Islam and Constable Md. Russell Chowdhury. The CMP Commissioner said that police source Sohel has also been arrested in this incident. Naeem was allegedly beaten and harassed by the police after being taken home from a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Lalkhan Bazar area of Chittagong city on Friday night after a Premier League match in Dhaka. He later alleged that he was harassed even after being taken to the police station. Naeem Hasan told reporters that he boarded a night flight from Dhaka to Chittagong Airport. From there, he took an autorickshaw home. While getting off the expressway, the police signaled the autorickshaw to stop in Lalkhan Bazar area. Then the police took the vehicle documents from the driver. Later, after getting off the car, Khulshi Police Station SI Shafiqul Islam and police source Sohel beat Naeem Hasan with sticks and pipes. At one point, the police took Naeem to the police station in an autorickshaw. There he was also harassed. Later, Naeem was released from the police station with the mediation of BCB officials.
