Case filed against Dr. Yunus-Nurjahan Begum and 5 others over alleged treatment failure and child death in measles

The court has dismissed the case filed against former interim government chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Nurjahan Begum and 5 others over the death of a child in measles. Today, Monday (June 8), the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam of Dhaka dismissed the application.
Earlier in the morning, Independent MP from Kishoreganj-5 constituency Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal filed the case at the CMM Court in Dhaka. Apart from Dr. Muhammad Yunus, former health advisor Nurjahan Begum, former health secretary Saidur Rahman, Dr. Yunus’s then special assistant Dr. Sayedur Rahman and former Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr. Abu Zafar were accused in the case.
Earlier, on May 20, UNICEF held a press conference on the measles vaccination situation. UNICEF representative Rana Flowers said that UNICEF had warned the interim government about the shortage of vaccines 10 times and had sent five letters about it. However, she added that the crisis was not due to a lack of funds to buy vaccines, but rather due to procurement complications.
