Attack on RAB camp in Selimpur jungle of Chittagong, gunfight with joint forces
Armed terrorists launched a simultaneous attack on the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) camp in Selimpur jungle of Sitakunda. Upon receiving the information, a joint force comprising the army, RAB and police launched an operation. The gunfight between the two sides continued till midnight. The attackers suddenly started firing at around 1 am on Sunday (May 24). The situation is tense in the area. At the same time, additional forces of law enforcement agencies have been deployed there.
Immediately after the attack at night, the joint forces launched an operation and arrested several suspects. Police said that the joint forces had set up multiple camps in Selimpur jungle to maintain law and order. A group of terrorists opened fire on the camps at night. Later, the joint forces also put up counter-resistance. Earlier, the terrorists demolished a camp of the joint forces with a bulldozer.
Police initially suspect that Yasin’s force was involved in the attack. Meanwhile, terrorists have cut several places on the road to enter Alinagar through Jungle Selimpur. Jungle Selimpur is called another country within the country. Jungle Selimpur area is basically divided into two parts—the uprooted area on one side and Alinagar on the other. In both parts, numerous houses, shops and markets have been illegally built by cutting down the hills. According to the Sitakunda Land Office, the total area of Jungle Selimpur is about 3,100 acres. This area has become a sanctuary for terrorists for almost four decades.
Earlier, on January 19, Chittagong RAB Deputy Assistant Director-DAD (Nayeb Subedar) Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan was killed in an attack by terrorists during an operation in Jungle Selimpur. On March 9, law enforcement agencies conducted a joint operation to eliminate the hideouts of criminals and establish administrative control in Jungle Selimpur. About 4,000 members of the army, police, RAB, BGB, and APBN participated in this operation.
