2 Bangladeshis killed in Israeli attack in Lebanon, Dhaka strongly condemns
Two expatriate Bangladeshis were killed in an Israeli drone attack in southern Lebanon. The deceased were identified as Shafiqul Islam of Bhaluka Chandpur village in Satkhira Sadar upazila and Md. Nahidul Islam of Kadkati village in Ashashuni upazila of the same district.
According to sources in the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, the attack took place in a residential area in the Zebdin area of Nabatieh upazila around 12 noon local time yesterday, Monday (May 11). Bangladesh strongly condemned the incident. At the same time, it expressed deep grief and condolences to the families of the deceased.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (May 12), it was mentioned that the Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon is working with the relevant local authorities to complete the necessary formalities to repatriate the bodies of the deceased. The embassy is also in touch with the family members of the deceased.
Bangladesh also expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence and civilian casualties in the region and called on all to exercise maximum restraint and abide by international humanitarian law. Earlier, on April 8, a Bangladeshi female worker named Deepali Begum was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut.
