Eight injured in clash between two parties in Magura

A clash, attack and vandalism took place in Sreepur upazila of Magura over damage to a neighbor’s vegetable field by goats. At least eight people from both sides were injured in the clash. Harun Sheikh (30), Sujan Sheikh (25), Sumon Sheikh (30) and Afroza (27) of the Jalal Sheikh group were injured in the clash. On the other hand, Nazir (35), Ujjwal (30) and Shariful (30) of the Motahar group were seriously injured.
The injured have been rescued and admitted to the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex. The incident took place on Monday (May 11) night in Paschimpara of Amalsar village in the upazila. According to local sources, a goat belonging to Sajeda Begum, wife of Moslem Sheikh of Amalsar village, ate vegetables from the land of Motahar, son of his neighbor, Qiamuddin. A fight broke out between Motahar’s son Tariqul and Sajeda’s family members over this incident.
At one point, a young man named Sumon Sheikh beat up Tariqul, leading to a scuffle between the two groups. During the fight, Sujon Sheikh’s house was attacked and vandalized. Later, the two groups chased each other. Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Oli Mia said that the clash broke out between the two groups over the destruction of vegetable fields. No one was arrested in the night-time operation. The operation is ongoing. The OC said that legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received in this incident.
