The government is making every effort to make navigation 100% safe ahead of the upcoming Eid, said Minister for Road Transport, Shipping and Railways Sheikh Rabiul Alam. He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Shipping Safety Week on Sunday (May 10) morning.
The Shipping Minister said that no kind of chaotic situation will be allowed to arise during Eid. Launch owners will have to be held accountable to restore order on the waterways. Besides, strict measures are being taken to improve the quality of passenger service and ensure safety.
He also said that our waterways are basically a gift of nature. Ensuring order is very important to make it safe and prosperous. In addition, the government said that various steps are being implemented, including increasing surveillance on the waterways, to make the Eid journey smooth and safe. Meanwhile, State Minister for Shipping Md. Rajib Ahsan said at the ceremony that no unlicensed and inappropriate vessels will be allowed to ply during Eid. Strict instructions have been given to the concerned authorities including the Naval Police and Coast Guard.
He further said that some unauthorized vessels are still plying in small waterways. I would request the Naval Police and Coast Guard members to keep a close watch on this matter.
