Kishoreganj youth killed in Ukrainian drone attack in Russia

Md. Riyad Rashid (28), a resident of Karimganj upazila in Kishoreganj, was killed in a drone attack by Ukrainian forces while fighting for the Russian army. He was serving as a regular soldier in the Russian army. The deceased Riyad was a resident of Majhirkona village in Jafrabad union of Karimganj upazila and the son of Abdur Rashid, a former teacher at Jafrabad High School. Riyad was the fourth of five siblings.
According to family sources, Riyad’s friend Limon Dutta informed the family of his death on social media Messenger at around 7 pm on Friday (May 8). On May 2, the Ukrainian forces carried out a drone attack on the Russian border. In this, two Bangladeshis and a Nigerian citizen, including Riyad, were killed and three others were injured. In addition, Limon himself was also working as an army member in the same camp in Russia and was seriously injured in the drone attack and lost a leg. He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The family claims that Riyad went to Russia in October last year to work for a company. He joined the Russian army on April 7. His batch number was 735. However, the family was not aware of his joining the army in advance. Abdur Rashid, the deceased’s father, said, “We were not informed that Riyad had joined the army. If I had known, I would never have let him go there. Now I hear that everything ended in a drone strike. I cannot even find my son’s body. How can I bear this pain as a father?” Jafrabad Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abu Sadat Md. Sayem said, “The incident is very sad. I have inquired about the family of the deceased. If any financial assistance is received from the government, we will definitely arrange it.” Karimganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Imranul Kabir said, “The police went to Riyad Rashid’s house and confirmed his death by talking to his relatives.”
