Illegal Establishments Demolition Drive on Both Sides of Chandpur-Comilla Road
A drive to demolish illegal establishments has started on both sides of the Chandpur-Comilla regional road. The Roads and Highways Department (SOH) said that about 270 illegal establishments will be demolished in phases from the district headquarters to Lalmai in Comilla. The demolition drive began in front of the Chandpur Deputy Commissioner’s office at 10 am today (May 3). The district administration and police administration cooperated in the drive.
During the drive, the structures north of the Superintendent of Police’s residence, in front of the Warlesh BRDB office, next to Iqra Model Academy, in front of the Warlesh vegetable market and meat market, and various business establishments at the Warlesh intersection were demolished. Md. Ferdous, a businessman in Warlesh Bazar, said that this place is located on the road.
The demolition drive was carried out on the road. But the Chandpur Municipality has been leasing this market for many years. Leaseholder Kabir Khalifa is collecting rent regularly. Earlier, notices were issued in these areas by the Roads and Highways Department and miking was done for the eviction of illegal establishments.
Chandpur Roads Department Executive Engineer (SOH) Md. Yunus Ali said that this is part of the regular eviction drive. It started from the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Sunday. The drive will continue throughout the week. 270 illegal establishments on both sides of the regional road from the district headquarters to Lalmai in Comilla have been brought under eviction. He added that a list of affected small traders will be prepared after the eviction. We will inform the higher authorities about them.
Chandpur Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Bappi Dutta Roni said, we have some regular haats on both sides of the road, which are leased. On the day of the haat, farmers and common people bring various goods to these haats. They do not occupy any space on the road. But there are some traders who are doing regular business by setting up shops illegally; Their illegal institutions are being dismantled.
