9 killed in massive fire in Delhi multi-storey building

At least 9 people have died in a massive fire in a four-storey building in the Vivek Vihar area of ​​the Indian capital Delhi. Two others were injured. The fire broke out on the second floor of the building at around 4 am today (May 3). 14 fire tenders were immediately sent to the spot. However, firefighters reached the spot and found that the fire had also spread to the third and fourth floors.
Local officials said that more than a dozen people were rescued alive from the building. The injured have been admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment. The fire was brought under control around 6 am after about two hours of efforts. From the scene, it can be seen that many parts of the building were burnt and smoke was coming out from the upper floors.
Shahdara district Deputy Police Commissioner Rajendra Prasad Meena said, “The fire was reported around 4 am. The fire brigade and local police immediately reached the spot. After about two hours of effort, the fire was brought under control, after which a search operation was launched. Police said they have recovered all the bodies and handed them over to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police.”
