Child rape and murder in Comilla: One sentenced to death

A court has sentenced one to death for the rape and murder of Umme Habiba Meem, a second-grade student in Burichang, Comilla. This verdict was given by Judge Abdul Hannan of the Comilla Women and Children’s Tribunal Court on Thursday (April 30) afternoon. The convicted accused is Moinal Hossain, son of Khorshed Alam of Bhadella village in Burichang upazila.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Badiul Alam Sujan said that in 2021, accused Moinal Hossain raped and killed Umme Habiba Meem, a second-grade student in Bhadella village of the upazila, and hid her body in a toilet tank after wrapping it in polythene. The mother of the deceased Umme Habiba Meem filed a murder case with Burichang police station as the plaintiff. The verdict was given after taking the testimonies of 17 witnesses in the case.
