Amy who played March 7 speech gets bail

The High Court has granted bail to Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Amy, former vice-president of Dhaka University (DU) Shamsunnahar Hall Sangsad, who was arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act on charges of playing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic March 7 speech. A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Thursday (April 30). Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju heard the case on behalf of Amy in the court.
At around 9:30 pm on March 7 this year, Amy and a few others announced a program to play the speech by taking a stand in front of Shahbagh Police Station. While delivering the speech through a microphone in a rickshaw, a group of Dhaka University students including DUCSU leaders AB Zubair, Mosaddek Ali Ibne Mohammad and NCP student organization Jatiya Chhatra Shakti convener Tahmid Al Modasir stopped them. At one point, AB Zubair and Mosaddek Ali forcibly took Amy and another person to Shahbagh police station in a rickshaw. Later, the police arrested them. The next day, Sunday, three people arrested in a case filed at Shahbagh police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act were shown arrested and sent to jail. The police have registered a case in this incident.
