Youth’s body recovered in Patuakhali, roommate absconding

Police have recovered the body of a youth named Faisal Badsha from a rented house in Patuakhali. The body was recovered from a house in Sabujbagh Lane No. 10 of the city on Wednesday (April 29) afternoon. The deceased Faisal Badsha was working as a manager in a ‘soft-bite’ establishment in the area. He was a resident of Patharghata upazila of Barguna and a student of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Patuakhali Polytechnic Institute.
Police have sent his body to the morgue of the 250-bed Patuakhali Hospital for autopsy. Meanwhile, Faisal Badsha’s roommate Naimul Islam Chayan has been absconding since the incident. Chayan also worked as Faisal’s assistant in the same establishment. Faisal’s colleagues said that they tried to contact Faisal since yesterday morning but could not find any trace of him and went to his house in the afternoon to look for him. When they went there, they found Faisal lying on the floor next to the bed and informed the police. Later, the police came and recovered his body.
Local sources said that the deceased Faisal Badsha was accused of embezzling about 8 lakh taka and his absconding assistant Naimul Islam Chayan of about 5 lakh taka. When this discrepancy was detected during a regular account review, the authorities started an investigation and the matter of embezzlement was confirmed. During initial interrogation, both of them confessed to embezzling the money. Instead of taking immediate legal action against them for humanitarian reasons, the company gave them the opportunity to pay the money in installments. They continued to work by submitting checks and stamps to the owner as collateral.
But despite promising to return the money in installments, both of them suddenly broke their word. Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman said that the real cause of death can be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report. In addition, the operation is continuing with various steps including information technology to find the absconding Chayan. He also said that no one has filed a written complaint with the police station so far. If a complaint is filed, further legal action will be taken. However, the police are working to uncover the real incident.
