Measles vaccine not imported during interim government: Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman informed the National Assembly that measles vaccine for children was not imported from abroad during the interim government. The Prime Minister said this in response to a supplementary question by Gazipur-4 MP Salahuddin Ahmed in the Parliament session today, Wednesday (April 22).
The Prime Minister said, ‘Many children have died of measles. However, we are trying to deal with the entire situation in the future.’ Tarique Rahman said, ‘We, all political parties, have expelled a dictatorial regime from this country. But the sad thing is that during that dictatorial regime and even more sad thing is that during the interim government, measles vaccine for children was not imported from abroad for the last few years.’
The Prime Minister said, ‘This is why the problem naturally arose. However, UNICEF has helped Bangladesh a lot in this regard very quickly. They quickly sent us the measles vaccine. As a result, we will be able to vaccinate about 20 million children in the country. He added, “There is a shortage of test kits used to prevent measles. However, the government is also working on this issue. Many of these kits have arrived. One kit can do three tests. Some kits are currently at the airport customs. InshaAllah, we will arrange for their clearance soon.”
