Iran faces ‘economic collapse’ due to closure of Strait of Hormuz: Trump
US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is facing a serious financial crisis due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, Tehran is now desperate to open the waterway to avoid economic disaster.
In a post on his social media account ‘Truth Social’ on Wednesday (April 22), Trump wrote that Iran is losing about $500 million in revenue every day and they are losing an equal amount of money due to the closure of the strait. Trump claimed that Tehran initially announced the closure of the strait to ‘save face’ in the face of US sanctions. But now they realize that keeping it closed is suicidal for them.
Trump also mentioned that he received a message four days ago that Iran wants to open the strait immediately. However, he warned that Washington will not budge until US interests and a strong deal are ensured. “Iran is now crying for money and the country is completely collapsing financially,” he wrote. Trump issued a more severe warning in his post, suggesting that pressure on Iran’s leaders will continue.
