Yaba in rat poison packet, heroin in detergent; Woman arrested in Jamalpur

Police have arrested a woman named Lakshmi Begum (41) on charges of selling drugs in a novel way in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila. She was arrested in a raid in the city’s Purba Kanchripara area on Tuesday evening (April 14). Heroin and Yaba worth about Tk 1.5 million were recovered from her during the arrest.
Police said that based on secret information, a team led by Jamalpur Sadar Police Station SI Md. Khairuzzaman conducted a raid in a lane adjacent to Mesta Khanbari in Purba Kanchripara. At that time, after arresting Lakshmi Begum, about 104 grams of heroin, worth about Tk 10.40 lakh, was recovered from inside the detergent powder packet in her hand. In addition, 1,500 Yaba tablets specially hidden inside the rat poison packet, worth an estimated Tk 4.5 million, were seized.
The arrested Lakshmi Begum is the daughter of the deceased Babul Bepari of Beparipara village in Islampur upazila. He was currently living in East Kanchipara of Jamalpur town and was running a drug business. Jamalpur Police Station SI Md. Khairuzzaman said that there may be a few more people involved in this gang. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest them and the police’s strict campaign against drugs will continue.
